PUNK FRICKIN' ROCK

There was this spoken word "artist"
Talking about punk rock
Ferlinghetti
Bukowski
And all those other things
That make people think
These "artists" have an idea
Of what the hell they are talking about

I'm so punk rock
That I've gone past punk rock
To being totally square
And it all cancels itself out
Leaving a bad taste in my mouth

Bukowski is a cock people stroke for luck
And notoriety
Punk rock is a buzz word
And Hot Topic is a national chain now

"I don't have to prove myself to anyone,
that's how fucking punk rock I am"
said the "artist"
"Just because I stand behind the mosh pit
and have mod hair, means nothing..."

I had been downing the cape cods
So I wrote a note and slipped it to him
On my way out
To the real world
The one in black and white
For those of us who don't try
To color it to our liking

The note said
"I've never written a poem in my life,
about the fact that I am white.  Have fun
scribbling in your expensive journal while
I'm at the Motorhead show next week"
Signed,
Just another asshole that knows
You will always be a fucking phony.
