Great, great stuff, keep the submissions coming in....and of course submit to the Cherry Bleeds Literary Awards. This will be a yearly thing until the holy trinity of Bleeds, Paul, MK and I, are six feet under. Did you know in California the law is 18 inches under? The six feet under thing was something they did in England when there was a breakout of the Plague. I have no idea why I know that. In case you've been holding your breath in suspense, I won Literary Death Match #6. Thanks to Opium Magazine for inviting me. I was hyperventilating because I haven't been in front of over 100 people in a while and everyone else reading had some real credits and books published and I felt like the fraud who snuck in. If you're a writer you know how the whole self loathing goes. Once the audience laughed on the right sentence and I had to wait a good 10 seconds for the crowd to die down to continue, my nerves went away and it was great. It felt like a literary cleansing because the weekend before I had been to the San Francisco Writers Conference and agents weren't even looking at a word of my writing and giving me advice for my book....like, 'make the narrator fifteen and I'll read it'. Seriously. And the first sentence of my book starts out with a scene about Gabe discovering his first pubic hair. Yep, will go ahead and change it to fifteen, that'll work, thank you, no, I don't need your card. So, I needed a bit of acknowledgment after getting my ass kicked sideways the weekend before. If you live in the San Francisco area and wanna grab a beer I'll be here this weekend: ArnoCorps! is playing on Saturday at Slim's and Slim Cessna's Auto Club is playing Sunday at 12 Galaxies. If you're into fun metal, go to ArnoCorps! If you're into 16 Horsepower or a version of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds with more redneck and religion, then definitely check out Slim Cessna's Auto Club. Both bands are on my top ten of live bands to see right now. Oh, and The Bad Seeds latest release, "Dig, Lazarus, Dig" rules. It'll be featured on my radio show on Thursday.
Tony DuShane edits Cherry Bleeds and does other stuff....and is toying with the genre he coined, literary spiritual dick lit. |
