WHAT EVERYONE WAS THINKING

"Would someone call 911?"
we all ignored the guy
he looked queer
and was chasing a half Asian teen-aged boy
around the the cafe
overturning chairs.
"Why are you calling the police on me?"
said the boy
"You took my cellphone," said the queer
Polk St. is full of horny old men
and young hustlers
so everyone was thinking the same thing:
this guy got ripped off by the kid
if was his own fault.
the cafe owner asked them to step outside
the boy stood on a chair
and the man started screaming
"Help!
Please someone call 911!"
under his breath he said
"he's my son, he's having
a psychotic break"
he looked reserved, embarrassed
that he would have to make a scene
someone gave him a phone
the kid crouched in a corner
he had cuts on his arms
and the father and some other men
stood blocking the entrance
while we all waited
for the police to come.
